These early moments pass in the blink of an eye. As a professional newborn photographer in Buckinghamshire, I specialise in calm studio newborn photography sessions for families across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Behind the lens
Hi, I’m Kate – the heart behind Florence Joan Photography.
Before stepping into photography full-time, I spent 15 years in hospitality management and 6 years in higher education. It was the arrival of my two daughters in 2023 and 2025 that truly changed everything. They gave me the courage to follow my dream and build something of my own, something rooted in creativity, love and family.
Florence and Joan are their middle names, and Joan was also my grandmother’s first name – the woman I credit for my creative spirit. Naming my business after her felt like the most meaningful way to honour both my heritage and the little girls who inspired this new chapter.
As a mum of two, I understand just how precious – and overwhelming – those first few weeks can be. You’re getting to know your baby, adjusting to a new rhythm and soaking in every tiny detail. My goal is to give you a peaceful experience where you can pause, relax and trust that these early memories are being beautifully preserved.
Newborn sessions aren’t just photographs, they’re lasting keepsakes of the smallest, most magical moments.
The Experience
1. Book your session with me by getting in touch via the contact form, email or telephone.
2. One week before your shoot we will discuss your colour preferences and I will provide you with a newborn preparation guide.
3. The day of your shoot, arrive around 9.30am, we will ensure your baby is well fed, warm and has had plenty of cuddles before we wrap them and begin the shoot.
4. I allow up to 4 hours for the newborn shoot as we will go completely at baby's pace, plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, tea/coffee and snacks. Sitter and family sessions usually run for around 2 hours
5. At the shoot we will book a viewing session for roughly one week later, this is for you to return to my studio to view your gallery and choose your pictures. At this time you will be able to upgrade your package and add any extra prints , if you wish.
